Do you struggle to breathe through your nose?
Do you constantly feel congested or like something is blocking it?
Do you snore so badly it’s affecting your sleep or annoying your partner?
You may be among the millions who have nasal airway obstruction.
Nasal airway obstruction occurs when something is making it difficult for you to breathe easily through your nose causing you to have a constant congestion. This type of nasal blockage may be the source limiting airflow through your nose.
The discomfort often starts at the nasal valve – a triangular area in your nasal passage that’s crucial for proper use of your nose.
The nasal valve has four parts:
Vestibule: This is the entrance to your nose, the part you can wiggle. It has a firm shape thanks to cartilage and muscles. This area doesn't change its size much because it doesn't have the special tissue that can puff up.
Bony Entrance: This is a bit deeper inside your nose, where the bone starts. Here, there's tissue that can puff up or shrink down.
Turbinate (or Lateral Wall): On the sides of this bony section, there are ridges called turbinates. These also have that special puff-up tissue.
Septal Wall: This is the middle wall of your nose that separates one nostril from the other. It has the same kind of tissue that can change in size.
Enlargement of any of these parts of the nose can restrict airflow and result in nasal airway obstruction.
